Total = tax-free price x (1 + rate / 100)

Starting from Rs 100, a 18% rate gives Rs 18 in tax and Rs 118 total.

Pakistan federal Sales Tax: 18% standard rate and item-specific rates

Pakistan's federal tax on taxable goods and imports is called Sales Tax, not VAT. Section 3 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 sets the standard rate at 18%. The increase from 17% took effect on 14 February 2023, and the Finance Act 2026 retained the 18% reference.

Rates outside the standard band are tied to specified goods and conditions. The current Eighth Schedule includes 5% for second-hand and worn clothing or footwear and for narrowly defined fertilizer inputs. Mobile-phone sales tax can range from 18% to 25% according to value and classification. Sales tax on services is generally administered under separate provincial regimes.

Pakistan rupee example and the 4% further tax

On a taxable value of Rs 1,000, standard Sales Tax is Rs 180 and the total is Rs 1,180. At a qualifying 5% schedule rate, the total would be Rs 1,050.

A 4% further tax can apply in addition when covered taxable goods are supplied to a person without a registration number or active-taxpayer status, subject to notified exclusions. The calculator preserves its existing selectable percentages and applies only one chosen rate. It does not add further tax, determine a schedule or provincial service rate, classify a mobile phone, test an exemption or prepare a return. The result is orientative, not personalised tax advice.
