How to calculate Sales Tax in Pakistan step by step (25%, 18%, 16%, 13%, 5%)
This guide explains how to add Sales Tax manually and how to check the result using the calculator.
In some shops or web portals, you may see prices with the comment "Sales Tax not included". This means that it is not the final price, and you will have to add Sales Tax to the amount to get the total to pay.
Formula to calculate Sales Tax on a price without Sales Tax
To calculate the Sales Tax in this case, the following formula should be used:
Practical example of Sales Tax calculation at 18%
That is, if you have a product whose value is Rs 2,400 without Sales Tax and with a 18% Sales Tax rate, the formula would look like this:
The product price must be multiplied by the Sales Tax percentage, and that number divided by 100. In this case, it would give Rs 432. So the Sales Tax amount would be Rs 432.
Another alternative would be to divide 18% by 100, resulting in 0.18, and multiply this by Rs 2,400, resulting in Rs 432 in the same way.
Finally, to add Sales Tax to a price, add the base price of the product, for example, Rs 2,400, plus the calculated Sales Tax of Rs 432, giving a final result of Rs 2,832.
Example of reduced Sales Tax calculation (5%)
In the case of a product with a price of Rs 2,400 without Sales Tax to which the reduced Sales Tax of 5% is applied, the formula allows calculating the corresponding tax for certain goods and services that have a lower taxation than the standard rate.
