VAT Calculator in United Kingdom

The United Kingdom applies Value Added Tax (VAT). The standard rate is 20% and has applied since 4 January 2011. A 5% reduced rate applies to specified supplies, including qualifying domestic fuel and power, and defined supplies can be zero-rated.

Zero-rated supplies remain taxable at 0%, while exempt and outside-the-scope supplies have different VAT and input-tax consequences. The product or service must be classified under HMRC rules.

For a standard-rated price of £100 before VAT, tax is £20 and the total is £120. At the reduced 5% rate, the total would be £105.

The calculator adds or removes the percentage selected. It does not determine the tax point, place of supply, Northern Ireland goods treatment, partial exemption, input-tax recovery, registration or returns. The result is an orientation check, not personalised tax advice.
